Eggless Semolina Chocolate Cake

CAKE – is not just a tempting dish but as soon as we verbalize this word our mouth starts watering! Cake is an enchanting dish and it mesmerizes our senses. The word itself denotes party, craving and even expression of love and friendship. It symbolizes celebration for every occasion. Although, not just restricted for celebration this is one such dish that is endearing to everyone. In spite of being a hot favorite relish, it is always ordered from bakeries. As most of us fear baking it at home, and so we never try it. But once you will try this simple recipe, I’m sure you will never prefer buying a cake! This cake not just tastes amazing but is also treat to the eyes! This recipe is a dedication to all those who are vegetarian and still want to enjoy the best cake. Even if you are not a vegetarian, you won’t be able to refrain yourself from having it.

Recipe (Serves 4 to 6)


1. Semolina: 1 Cup

2. All purpose flour: Half Cup

3. Cocoa Powder: Half Cup

4. Butter: 3/4 Cup

5. Condensed Milk (MilkMaid): 1 and 1/4 Cup

6. Milk: 1 Cup

7. Baking Powder: half tsp

8. Baking Soda: a pinch

For Garnishing

1. Walnuts: 4-5 kernels broken/coarsely chopped

2. Chocolate chips: fistful

3. White Chocochips: fistful


First of all mix all the dry ingredients (Semolina, all purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda) together and keep it aside.

Next, in a large mixing bowl, add soften/partially melted butter, condensed milk and Vanilla essence. Whisk it smooth with an electric blender. In absence of electric blender it can be done with the egg beater as well. But make sure you do it vigorously till the mixture is smooth and you can see bubbles surfacing.

In the next step mix the dry ingredients and milk gradually and alternately to the wet ingredients mix. Which means that add 1-2 tbsps of dry ingredients to the above mixture and add little milk and then blend. Repeat the procedure till everything is mixed to a smooth paste. In the end add pinch of baking soda to the mixture and whisk for few seconds.

Pre-heat the oven and grease the cake baking tray with butter and dust with all purpose flour. Add the cake batter to the tray and top it will white and dark chocochips and walnut kernels. Bake it at 180 degree Celsius for half an hour to 45 mins as required. Prick a toothpick or knife to check if the cake is baked properly. If the knife comes out clean the cake is ready.

Serve the cake warm. It can also be enjoyed with a dollop of whipped cream or scoop of Vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. Try this simple recipe for your guest and family and win accolades from them!
