Cheese Lava Veg Balls

Starter are the charm of any party, get-together or dinner. So what makes my starter recipe special than so many recipes that are generally found on internet? We all  are fond of Cheese. Aren’t we? Inspite of the fact that Cheese did not originate in India and traditionally Indian recipes do not have cheese in it, but still we adapted cheese very endearingly. My recipe is very simple yet innovative. I am sure it will please not just your family but also your guest. Hope you relish my recipe. Happy Cooking!


(Serves four. Preparation time – 30 mins, Freezing time – 1 hr., Cook time – 15mins)

1. Boiled and mashed Potatoes – 2 medium sized

2. Green Peas – 150 gms (approx 1 katori)

3. Paneer – 100gms

4. Bread Crumbs – 3 tbsp

5. Coarse Semolina – half Katori

6. Green Chillies – 1-2 nos

7. Ginger – 1 inch

8. Coriander – Handful Chopped

9. Funnel Seeds (dry roasted and coarsely crushed) – 2 tbsp

10.  Cumin Powder – 1 tsp

11. Chili Powder – 1tsp

12. Coriander Powder – 1tsp

13. Sesame Seeds – 1 tbsp

14. Poppy Seeds – 1 tbsp

15. Mozzarella Cheese – 100 gms

16. Butter – 1 tbsp

17. Salt – As per taste

18. Oil for frying


To start, grind the green peas with green chilies and ginger. Now, in a pan heat butter and Saute the grinded mixture till it looses its moisture. Add coursed crushed funnel seeds, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder and salt to the mixture. Take mashed potatoes in a large mixing bowl, add the peas mixture to it. Add bread crumbs to it. Taste the mixture once and check and adjust salt and other seasonings. Feel free to add seasoning as per your taste buds.

Cut small cubes of the Mozzarella Cheese (Approx 10-12 gms each). Spread the Semolina on a plate. Now take water in one katori, wet your palms and roll laddu sized balls of the mixture. Stuff the cheese cubes in it and roll the balls on the semolina. In an air tight container store all the ready balls and keep it in refrigerator for one hour. This will ensure that the cheese will not spill out during frying. If you are making this in large quantity make sure that you take out only the ones that you are going to fry immediately and store the rest again in the fridge. 

Heat sufficient oil in a kadhai, and fry 4-5 balls on high flame. Make sure the oil is well heated and flame is high as the veg balls are chilled. Do not stir immediately, as it may break the balls. After few mins, stir them occasionally and remove them on an absorbent paper. Serve immediately to witness and enjoy cheese lava oozing out.
